Welcome to the year 1 classroom, we can't wait to see you all in September! We are really looking forward to diving into our topics of Castles (History) and the Local Area (Geography). We have some super work planned for you all. A lot of the everyday routines will be just as you remember them in reception. There will be plenty of time for playbased learning alongside more structured teaching.

Although school is open for everyone now, there are still some changes to our normal routines. You will need to be aware of these to keep yourself and everyone else in our school community safe.

Things You Need To Know:

  • Children can only bring a coat, water bottle, snack, reading book and diary into school. Also a lunchbox if you have sandwiches. NO SCHOOL BAGS ARE ALLOWED IN THE BUILDING.
  • In a morning drop off for year 1 children ONLY, with be through the spiritual area (at the front entrance, between the main doors and the Y6 classroom). One of us will be there to greet you. You will need to say your goodbyes at the gate.
  • At the end of the day, children will be dismissed from the classroom door, as they were in reception. Parents should wait behind the line, on the playground.
  • In an afternoon the side gate to the school will be open from 2:55pm. We will release children as soon as we see you on the playground.
  • Year 1 have PE on Mondays and Fridays. Children MUST wear their PE kits to school on those days. Kit = black tracksuit bottoms/leggings, school PE t-shirt, school hoodie/jumper/cardigan, trainers.
  • During the Autumn Term Year one will also be having some Outdoor Woodland Learning sessions. We will let you know (via text) when these are. Children should come to school dressed appropriately on these days.
  • We are not able to have face to face contact with parents at the moment, so please use the journals to let us know anything, or ask any questions. We check them daily. Alternatively you can contact the office via email/text and they will pass anything on.

We hope you all have a lovely summer and we are really looking forward to seeing you all in September.

Summer Holiday Extras for children leaving Y1

If you want to practice some maths skills over the summer break why not try these 'maths mystery' problems. The children might need a bit of support (as they are aimed at KS1 not Y1 specific) but they are good fun!
